A Supportive Chameleon | DSP profile of Kristen Mellecker

For many years, Kristen had been a 1:1 in Baltimore County Public Schools working with children with disabilities. In 2013, she started with The Arc Baltimore when a young man who she supported graduated from school and entered services with The Arc.

Now, Kristen supports two gentlemen who live with their families, and her role in their lives is different for each. “For one guy, I am a tool who helps him get up and out of the house to visit with friends at The League for People with Disabilities and to his medical appointments and therapies. The other man sees me as a friend with whom he can discuss everything from music to how to better communicate with his family to sharing new recipes to prepare together. It just works.”

Kristen enjoys talking with the men to learn what they need and how she can lend a hand as they direct their own lives.

"The end goal of what I do is to help people have fun, feel comfortable in their own skin, and build confidence in living their lives."
