Family Fund

The Arc Baltimore’s Family Fund Grant provides vital financial support to families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Grants help cover urgent and meaningful needs, such as medical expenses, therapies, summer camps, or other essential services that improve quality of life.

Applications are accepted twice a year—in February and August.

Eligibility & Application Guidelines

Only complete applications from eligible families will be considered. Submission does not guarantee approval, as grants are awarded based on:

Who Can Apply?

Families with a child under age 21 with a diagnosed IDD (e.g., autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy)
The child must:
- Reside in Baltimore City or County
- Not be enrolled in the Autism Waiver
- Not receive DDA services from another provider
Families must not have participated in The Arc’s Adopt-a-Family program in the past 12 months
Families can only receive a Family Fund grant 1 time every 24 months.

How Much Can You Request?

Up to $500 per eligible child for one need only
Requests cannot combine multiple items to reach the $500 limit
Families may apply once every 24 months

What Can You Apply For?

The grant may support:

Medical & Health Needs:
- Therapies, medication, co-pays, mobility equipment, wheelchair ramps, safety rails
- Expenses not covered by insurance
Life-Enhancing Supports:
- Equine therapy, gym memberships, and other enrichment activities
Summer Camps & Activities:
- Art classes, swimming lessons, day camps
Emergency Assistance (for families with school-aged children):
- Utility shutoff: Must provide BGE shutoff notice and proof of applying to Energy Assistance and the Fuel Fund
- Eviction prevention: Must show eviction notice and payment plan beyond Family Fund support

What’s Required in the Application?

Documentation:
- Child’s IDD diagnosis
- Proof of Baltimore City/County address
- Child’s date of birth (under age 21)
Detailed Request:
- Description of the need or item
- Total cost and any other funding sources
- Explanation of how the child will benefit
