The Training Department advances the mission of The Arc Baltimore by providing innovative trainings that enhance the knowledge and skills of those supporting individuals at The Arc. The goal of the training program is to not only meet regulatory requirements, but go beyond to develop employees’ abilities to help individuals achieve their goals. Emphasizing working with people from a strength-based perspective, the foundation of the training program is based on the belief that all individuals, given supports that fit their unique needs, are capable of growth and development.

All staff at The Arc Baltimore are required to complete two weeks of training during their two week orientation prior to supporting individuals with I/DD. Each staff receives the following trainings:

  • Fundamental Rights & Working With Families
  • Behavioral Principles & Strategies
  • Individualized Plans, Incident Reporting and Communications
  • Professional Development – Dysphagia, Disability Awareness and Sensitivity
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • Safe Driving
  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities & Aging
  • Community Integration
  • Medication Technician Training Program (4 days)
  • Fire Prevention, Response and Emergency Readiness
  • PORII
  • Individual Planning
