The Goal: In order to increase our impact during the annual Maryland Legislative Session, we are recruiting interested persons to be part of The Arc Baltimore’s Advocacy Impact Teams.
Teams: Teams will consist of 5-8 individuals from each of the State legislative districts in the Greater Baltimore area. Ideally, each team will consist of Board members and other volunteers, parents and siblings, staff (direct support and managerial/administrative), and of course, supported individuals/self-advocates.
Training & Meeting our State Officials: Team members will receive an orientation to the issues and the legislative process and we will target some visits to representatives in their ‘home’ offices prior to the session – and then have Advocacy Impact Teams visit all area representatives on Developmental Disabilities Day in Annapolis on February 10, 2016 in Annapolis (Mark your calendar now!!!!).
Make a Difference: Sign up to be a member of one of our Advocacy Impact Teams. All it takes is a commitment of some time for visits to legislators and making calls and/or sending e-mails at key times during the session. You must be a registered voter (if you’re not already, it only takes a few minutes).
Here’s How: To join a team (or to learn more about it), please send an e-mail to Steven Cenname, Public Policy Intern, at scenname@thearcbaltimore.org. Let Steven know your State Legislative district, your e-mail address, your mailing address and how you are connected to The Arc Baltimore (i.e. a family member of someone we support, an interested volunteer/Board member, self-advocate, staff, etc.) If you don’t use e-mail, contact Steven by phone at 410-296-2722 X5209. Steven will contact you back within two weeks to confirm your interest and get some additional information about you. If you are uncertain of your legislative district, Steven can help you, or go to www.mdelect.net.
